Half of the world's population is at risk of malaria.

Our main objective is first to reduce the number of cases of malaria by controlling the malaria-bearing mosquito and interrupting transmission.

Inappropriate use of antimalarial drugs in the past century contributed to widespread resistance in the malaria parasite.

One in five of all childhood deaths in Africa are due to malaria.

Every year there are about 250 million malaria cases and nearly one million deaths.

Puppets

The Malaria Zappers

Inspired by the recent popularity of Flat Stanley, The Malaria Zappers are two puppets, Dr. Nettie Goodwater and Dr. Mal Aria. They are traveling all around the Conference raising awareness about Malaria and our campaign to wipe it off the face of the earth in the next five years.

The puppets (and two scripts [Script #1 and Script #2] that could be used for a puppet show) will be in each church in our conference at least one Sunday, if that church makes a request .You can check availability through our online calendar. When they visit your church, treat them as your guests in worship and/or during your normal children’s ministry activities. Please feel free to create your own puppet script according to the needs/demographics of your church.

The Malaria Zappers have also made a video which is accessible here on our website. You may watch the video of one of the puppet shows and the instructions by puppet master Pix Smith. You may use the puppets for one week unless special arrangements are made with the scheduler. Because the puppets’ popularity has already soared, we plan to have four sets of Mal and Nettie.

Our hope is that each church will post pictures from the Malaria Zappers’ visit to your church here on our ZapMalaria.Com website along with stories about the visit. Your reporting might include:

  • What surprising things did they teach your congregation about Malaria?
  • How much money were they able to raise?
  • Did they inspire any creative fundraisers?
  • What did the Zappers get to participate in while they were your guests?
  • What inspires your congregation to join the fight against Malaria with the Malaria Zappers?
